My Personal Goal Statement
73Degree and Specialization
With so many options, choosing a career can sometimes be hard. I have taken many aptitude tests and they all say that I should work with people. I like to help others when they are in need. It makes me feel good that I made a difference in someones life. So after many years of consideration I have finally decided my career path. I would like to obtain a Bachelors of Science in Psychology with a concentration in Preparing for Graduate Studies.
Personal and Professional Goals
I would like to attend a college that gives me flexibility, affordability and convience. I need to be able to balance school with work and family as well as self. Being able to attend classes online is very convient. The time and costs to travel to a campus would add stress to my daily life. With five week sessions I have the flexibility to complete my courses without overloading my schedule. This also enables me to learn what I need right away. Instead of taking sixteen weeks to learn something I can do it in five, which works better for my learning style.
An undergraduate degree would assist in my personal and professional goals. I always find myself wondering how the brain works and why we make certain decisions and actions. I analyze peoples words, actions and body language constantly. I often find my oldest daughter struggling with school work. I think to myself if I just knew how to get through to her so she understands what I am trying to teach her. Psychology opens so many doors to the human brain from the cognitive process to behavior patterns. I believe having this knowledge would help me become a better parent for my children.
The economy is currently taking a down fall and as a result it is becoming difficult to find employment. I find myself competing with thousands of people in my city for the same position. Lack of experience and education really holds me back. With a degree in Psychology, I am more marketable to the work force. I will have the ability to apply for jobs that require a four year degree.
Work and Other Experience
Being a college student requires a lot of reading, writing, time management and thinking. I constantly put myself in a learning environment to keep my brain working. I write articles for a website called hubpages.com. This requires me to research the topic of my article. I read other articles as well as news articles featured on Yahoo.com.
I love to learn something new everyday. When I have time to myself, I spend it learning something whether it is CSS or how to treat eczema. Over the past two years I have been teaching myself web design and graphic design. I learned how to use various tools needed on my own and through tutorials on the Internet.
I am ready to stop standing still and move forward with my life. So much has changed since I graduated from high school. I have a bigger family and a greater need. Employment is scarce and so are opportunities to advance in life. A college degree is my only option to advance myself, my family and my life.
